19 Oct 2007 - Democracy Day
They spent the day learning all about the importance of living in a democracy and about government and voting.
In the afternoon they all dressed to impress, the girls in cocktail dresses and the boys in dinner Jackets and dickie bows, and sat down to a delicious meal served by AIP.
During each of the four courses they debated issues, such as; Should the voting age be lowered to age 16?
Should there be more teaching in school about politics and government?
and
Would they stand for election?
The children didnt think the voting age should be lowered because children of that age are busy studying for GCSE's and may not understand what they are voting for, however some argued that if someone is at work at age 16 they should be entitled to vote about things that affect them.
The children felt that there should be more taught in schools about politics and government so that people know why they are voting, however nearly everyone said that they wouldn't stand for election because there would be too much preasure, it would be boring and also voters wouldn't like you!
Thank you to the Year 5 waiters and waitresses and to AIP for helping to make the day so special.
A great day was had by all and everyone looked fantastic!
Some pictures are in the gallery, and Mrs Rudd has spares for anyone who wants one.
There will also be a picture in the Bromsgrove Advertiser as they sent a reporter to the event.
