YEAR 4 HOME PAGE
first we met our teacher Mr Weston we were so excited last year we had him for swimming and he was brilliant! In 4SJ we've been learning about romans and celts, it was really cool.In 4DW we had an important visitor on 17th october his name was Proffesor McGinty he showed us amazing artefacts he taught us also about the romans and celts.
Today Professor McGinty told us about the Romans. These are some of
the things we found out:
Report by Joe, Joe and George in 4SJ.
. The Romans wore very heavy armour and on top of the
helmets there was a layer of horse hair.
.Romans ate dormice!!!!!!!!
.They ground the mouse?s skull in a bowl with stones inside.
. When the Romans came over to Britain, the Celts were wearing
trousers and the Romans had never seen them before because all the Romans ever
wore were short skirts.
. The Romans built a very long wall in front of Scotland so the Scottish people could not get over it and even if they got a ladder there would be a Roman at the top to push you off.
. The Romans had an army exercise called the testudo, which was the latin word for tortoise. It protected them from the enemy?s arrows.
On the 5th November 4DW and 4SJ went to Bishops Wood. Each class had a Saxon guide, 4DW's was called Bebbe. First of all we built a shelter out of long branches and ferns. We all had a go at going underneath our shelter to see what it was like.
At lunchtime we had to bring a waste free lunch. Our class only had 21g of waste and 4SJ had 55g.
In the afternoon we went over a hill to get to a Saxon hall made of oak beams, mud and straw. Bebbe showed us how to make a fire and she made us some Saxon bread, it was lovely!
We also did some activities like wool spinning, brooch making and fence weaving.
We had a excellent time and would like to go again.
