Year 5

In theme, we have been looking at a survival theme in Kenya . Let us first tell you about their flag:

Black represents the population of Kenya , and red, the blood they shed, fighting for independence. Green symbolises the Earth and its natural resources. The two white stripes stand for peace and harmony. The shield and two spears represent the defence of freedom.

In extended writing, we wrote some poems with Miss Vaughan. Here is Kathryn Ashton’s and Paul Michaela’s:

The Shell

From the outside of the shell,

It’s glimmering and glittering.

It looks like a glowing pearl,

Rigid and knobbly all over the shell

Inside the shell, I can feel

Sticky sand stuck to the sides of the shell,

Dark and gloomy

It feels as if the shell is coming in on me,

The shell dreams of someone to come

And take it to a beautiful place,

With other shells in shell paradise,

If I gave my shell to you,

 I would feel,

As if you had taken a piece of my heart out,

I would be devastated.

Without my shell, I am heart-broken,

I feel as if no one likes me

And I’m invisible.

I want my shell back.

I can’t live my life properly,

Without my glowing shell.

The Picture

From the outside I can feel

The golden structure of the frame,

Written in dazzling silver.

From the inside I can hear

Swords clashing together and

Super explosive dynamite going off.

The dream off my picture

Is a never-ending battle

Frozen in time,

Just waiting

For the battle to end.

If I gave my picture to you,

I would feel,

Partly happy,

And partly sad.

I would feel like something is missing.

Without my picture,

I will feel like

My body has been crushed on one side,

And glad on the other.

Oh, well,

I could always get a new one,

But it will never be the same.
